Qatar Airways Set to Announce Major Boeing Widebody Aircraft Order During Trump’s Middle East Visit
In an exciting development for the aviation industry, Qatar Airways is poised to announce a significant order for Boeing widebody aircraft during President Donald Trump’s upcoming visit to the Middle East. This monumental deal, reportedly involving around 100 Boeing jets with options for an additional 100, underscores Qatar Airways’ commitment to expanding its fleet and enhancing its operational capabilities.
According to Bloomberg, the announcement is expected to coincide with Trump’s visit to the region from May 13, 2025. Alongside Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are also preparing to unveil major investment initiatives during this high-profile visit.
Qatar Airways’ Strategic Fleet Expansion
As Qatar Airways prepares for this substantial order, sources close to the matter indicate that final negotiations are underway. The airline’s Chief Commercial Officer (CCO), Thierry Antinori, previously hinted at this development during a March 4, 2025, interview with Reuters. He emphasized the importance of maintaining a modern and competitive fleet, stating:
“To secure the growth of tomorrow by continuing to have a very strong and the best fleet in the industry, our CEO is working on the RFP (request for proposal) with the aircraft manufacturer to place a big order soon.”
While Antinori did not disclose whether the deal would be exclusively with Boeing, Airbus, or a combination of both manufacturers, the anticipation surrounding this announcement continues to grow.
The Importance of the Middle East Visit
President Trump’s itinerary includes crucial meetings with key figures in the region. His first stop will be Saudi Arabia, where he will engage in discussions with Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman. Following this, he will meet with Emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and conclude his visit in the UAE with President Mohammed Bin Zayed. These discussions are expected to address various economic and strategic interests, including the aviation sector.
