Uganda Airlines Launches Nonstop Service from Entebbe to London Gatwick

On May 18, 2025, Uganda Airlines proudly inaugurated its new nonstop service connecting Entebbe International Airport (EBB) to London Gatwick Airport (LGW). This exciting development marks the return of direct flights between Uganda and the United Kingdom, a decade after British Airways ceased its operations between London Heathrow (LHR) and Entebbe. With this new route, Uganda Airlines strengthens its position in the international travel market, offering convenient options for both business and leisure travelers.

The Significance of the New Route

The introduction of nonstop flights from Entebbe to London Gatwick is a significant milestone for Uganda Airlines. According to AeroTime, the airline initially considered Heathrow as its preferred airport but opted for Gatwick due to slot availability and cost factors. This strategic decision has resulted in Gatwick becoming a vital gateway for travelers seeking direct connections to Uganda.

  • Increased Connectivity: With the addition of Entebbe, London Gatwick now offers direct flights to 16 destinations across Africa.
  • Unique Offering: Uganda Airlines is currently the only airline providing a direct route between the UK and Uganda.

Aircraft and Service Details

Uganda Airlines will operate the new service using an Airbus A330-800neo, a relatively rare aircraft model. Only eight units of this aircraft have been produced globally, and currently, it is used by just two other airlines: Air Greenland and Kuwait Airways. The A330-800neo features a three-class configuration, accommodating 258 passengers across Business, Premium Economy, and Economy classes:

  • Business Class: 20 seats
  • Premium Economy: 28 seats
  • Economy Class: 210 seats
