Air India Expands Global Reach with New Codeshare Partnerships

Air India is taking significant strides in enhancing its global connectivity by signing codeshare agreements with Icelandair and Air Mauritius during the 81st International Air Transport Association (IATA) Annual General Meeting (AGM) held in New Delhi. These partnerships will provide passengers with enhanced travel options, marking a substantial development in Air India’s commitment to expanding its international network.

Enhanced Connectivity with Icelandair

The partnership between Air India and Icelandair enables customers to access 15 routes spanning India and Europe. This collaboration promises "greater flexibility and choice" for travelers, as highlighted by Campbell Wilson, CEO of Air India, and Bogi Nils Bogason, CEO of Icelandair.

  • Key Benefits of the Codeshare:
    • Unified baggage allowances
    • Enhanced connectivity through major European hub airports
    • Access to Icelandair flights to Reykjavik Airport (KEF) via Air India’s European gateways

Air India will utilize its ‘AI’ designator code on Icelandair-operated flights connecting Reykjavik to major cities like London (Heathrow and Gatwick), Frankfurt, Paris, Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Milan, and Zurich. Conversely, Icelandair customers can enjoy seamless access to Air India-operated flights to key Indian cities.

A New Era of Travel Between India and Iceland

Wilson emphasized the significance of this partnership, stating, “By combining our strengths, we are creating a seamless bridge between India’s vibrant destinations and Iceland’s extraordinary landscapes.” Bogason echoed this sentiment, describing the collaboration as a “significant milestone” that opens up exciting travel opportunities for customers.

The extended partnership now includes 17 routes across India, Mauritius, Réunion, South Africa, and Madagascar.
