ANA Introduces Free High-Speed Viasat Internet for International Travelers

All Nippon Airways (ANA) revealed on August 5, 2025, that it plans to provide complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi across all service classes on most of its international flights. This initiative aims to enhance in-flight connectivity for travelers.

The Wi-Fi service will be powered by Viasat, a U.S.-based satellite operator, utilizing its newly developed Amara platform. This advanced system was introduced in April 2025 and is designed to facilitate streaming-quality internet through a single, multi-network, multi-orbit antenna.

Initially, ANA will implement this new connectivity on its B767-300ER aircraft, primarily used for short- and medium-haul journeys within Asia. The airline intends to equip the first six of these planes during the fiscal year 2026, which begins in April 2026 in Japan.

Additionally, ANA plans to retrofit 19 B787-9 aircraft during the same fiscal year. They also aim to install high-speed internet service on 18 of the recently acquired B777-9 aircraft, pending Boeing’s certification and expected delivery timelines for this model.

This rollout plan indicates that by 2030, over 80% of ANA’s international fleet will feature high-speed internet access. This commitment aligns ANA with several major airlines that are also dedicated to offering complimentary high-speed internet to all passengers soon.

Airlines like Air France, Qatar Airways, and American Airlines have opted for SpaceX’s Starlink, while traditional satellite providers like Viasat are enhancing their services in order to remain competitive.

What are your thoughts on ANA’s new Wi-Fi initiative? Would you find free high-speed internet an essential feature when flying?
