Allegiant Pilots to Vote on Confidence Amid Claims of Toxic Management
Allegiant pilots are preparing to initiate a vote of no confidence against the airline’s management and Board of Directors, pointing to a “toxic management culture” as a primary concern.
The International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 2118, the union representing the pilots, announced that this decision stems from “years of repeated failures, poor strategic decisions, and reckless spending by upper management.”
On August 14, 2025, pilots associated with Allegiant expressed that the current leadership puts the “long-term health and stability of the airline” at risk.
Captain Kevin Winter, representing Local 2118, stated, “Contract or not, [Maury] Gallagher and [Greg] Anderson’s management team have proven they lack the capability to lead an airline. The past few years have been marked by one embarrassing failure after another. If pilots experienced even 1% of this level of failure in the cockpit, our careers would be over. It’s high time for management to be held accountable.”
The Allegiant pilots have engaged in contract negotiations with the airline for over two years, focusing on compensation, scheduling, and overall quality of life.
Recent statements highlight that leadership has overseen a 50% decrease in the company’s market value within six months and has squandered millions on unrelated projects.
Sean O’Brien, General President of the Teamsters, remarked, “[Allegiant] management culture is toxic. It is driven by arrogance and supported by yes men and women who could never do the pilots’ job.”
Pilots have criticized management for flying on private jets to meetings while claiming they cannot afford a new contract.
“A no confidence vote is not something any union takes lightly,” emphasized Greg Unterseher, Trustee of Local 2118. “The pilots believe that change is essential for the airline’s best interest, its employees, customers, and shareholders.”
The Teamsters make it clear that the upcoming vote extends beyond just contract negotiations.
A spokesperson for the Teamsters stated: “This is a demand for new leadership and stronger corporate governance that can assure the airline’s long-term stability, safety, and success.”
