American Airlines Introduces Boeing 777 Service to World’s Most Populous City
FORT WORTH– American Airlines (AA) will enhance its aircraft fleet on the Tokyo/Haneda (HND) routes to Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW) and Los Angeles (LAX), beginning March 29, 2026.
The route connecting Tokyo/Haneda to Dallas/Fort Worth will utilize the Boeing 777-300ER, while the Los Angeles flights will be serviced by the Boeing 777-200. This update moves away from the current use of Boeing 787s and will increase the availability of premium seating by 45%.

American Airlines Introduces 777 to Tokyo Routes
American Airlines’ choice to deploy larger aircraft on these transpacific routes is a calculated response to the increasing demand for premium travel between Japan and the United States.
The Boeing 777-300ER features eight Flagship First suites and 52 lie-flat Flagship Business seats, alongside enhanced premium economy and main cabin capacity.
While the Boeing 777-200 is smaller, it still provides a notable increase in premium seating compared to the Boeing 787-8 currently servicing the Los Angeles route.
| Aircraft Type | Route | Flagship First | Flagship Business | Premium Economy | Main Cabin Extra | Main Cabin | Total Seats |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Boeing 777-300ER | Tokyo/Haneda – Dallas/Fort Worth | 8 | 52 | 28 | 28 | 188 | 304 |
| Boeing 777-200 | Tokyo/Haneda – Los Angeles | – | 37 | 24 | 66 | 146 | 273 |
This aircraft upgrade is poised to enhance the experience for both business and leisure travelers, offering increased lie-flat seating, upgraded amenities, and expanded cargo capacity.
This transition fits within American Airlines’ larger strategy to optimize its fleet utilization across long-haul routes.
