Edelweiss Unveils First Airbus A320neo in Short-Haul Fleet Upgrade
Edelweiss is making strides to update its short-haul fleet with the acquisition of an Airbus A320neo from its sister carrier, Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS).
On August 19, 2025, Edelweiss announced plans to expand its fleet with the addition of two Airbus A320 aircraft. The first will arrive in October 2025, followed by the A320neo in March 2026.
The A320-200, which holds the registration HB-JLQ, was originally delivered to SWISS in 2011. The A320neo, delivered in 2020, has been in storage in Zurich since 2023.
Edelweiss describes this fleet expansion as a move to “strengthen” its market presence. The Airbus A320neo represents a modern upgrade from the A320, incorporating advanced technology and improved efficiency.
“I am thrilled that Edelweiss is progressing in its short- and medium-haul operations. The introduction of the Airbus A320neo marks a significant leap toward modernizing our fleet. This aircraft not only features eco-friendly technology but also enhances comfort for passengers,” stated Bernd Bauer, the CEO of Edelweiss.
With the addition of these two aircraft, Edelweiss will operate a total of 16 planes. As reported by ch-aviation, the airline’s current fleet includes five A340-300s and two A350-900s.
The two A350-900s serve as the first of six units previously operated by LATAM Airlines, aimed at replacing the older A340-300 aircraft in the Edelweiss lineup.
How do you think these new additions will enhance Edelweiss’s service and sustainability efforts?
