Qantas Boosts Brisbane-Palau Flights Until 2026 to Meet Rising Demand

Qantas has announced an extension of its direct flights from Brisbane to Koror, the capital of Palau, for another year. This service, known as the ‘Palau Paradise Express,’ has gained popularity among Australian travelers, prompting the decision.

Pat Conroy, the Minister for Defense Industry and Pacific Island Affairs, shared that the Brisbane-Koror connection will now operate until December 2026. Conroy emphasized that this extension strengthens the ties between Australia and Palau, highlighting the growing economic and cultural links between the two nations.

In their official release, Qantas attributed the service’s continuation to strong market demand and a significant uptick in Australian visitors since the route began in December 2024. The airline noted that Palau has transitioned from being a little-known destination to one of the most sought-after locations for Australian tourists in 2025.

Visitor statistics reveal that March and April 2025 recorded remarkable growth, with March seeing a staggering 146% increase in Australian arrivals. This trend underscores the rising interest in this beautiful Micronesian island.

Qantas reported an overall 113% increase in visitor arrivals to Palau during the first half of 2025 compared to the same timeframe in 2024. The first nine months have welcomed over 5,000 passengers on this route, with thousands more anticipated in the coming year.

Cam Wallace, Qantas CEO International, expressed excitement about the surge in visitor numbers, attributing much of the success to Australian travelers. He noted that this demand highlights Qantas’s commitment to connecting Australians with exceptional destinations and supporting Palau’s burgeoning tourism sector.

The weekly flights will continue, departing Brisbane every Saturday and making the journey to Koror in just six hours, utilizing Boeing 737 aircraft. Additionally, this route is backed by a one-year contract from the Australian Government to ensure operations continue, even if commercially challenging.
