Singapore Airlines A380 Returns to Hong Kong

HONG KONG- Singapore Airlines (SQ) has announced the temporary reintroduction of its Airbus A380 for the Singapore (SIN) to Hong Kong (HKG) route in mid-2026. Travelers will have a unique chance to experience the airline’s premium cabins, including its renowned Suites and 2017 Business Class offerings.

The A380 is scheduled to fly daily on routes SQ892/893 from late June to late July 2026, replacing the Boeing 777-300ER (77W) for this five-week period. For KrisFlyer members, both Saver and Advantage award space will be made available, but redemptions in premium cabins will require a substantial mileage investment.

Reviving the A380 on a Short Route

The Airbus A380 has not been a common sight on the Singapore–Hong Kong route since the Chinese New Year of 2025. Its last operation before that was in October 2024, as noted in various reports.

For a short time during peak summer demand, from June 21 to July 25, 2026, Singapore Airlines will reintroduce the A380 for SQ892 from Singapore to Hong Kong and SQ893 on the return trip.

When the A380 is not in service, the Boeing 777-300ER will take its place, which features older First Class and Business Class seats from 2013. The A380 offers a significant upgrade, showcasing the latest cabin configurations across all classes.

Flight Schedules and Aircraft Deployment

Throughout the 2026 northern summer season, Singapore Airlines will continue to operate five daily flights on the Singapore to Hong Kong route. Most flights will utilize the Airbus A350-900, with the A380 being the only upgraded option for SQ892/893 during this limited time.

Award Redemptions on the Route

KrisFlyer members will have access to a diverse range of redemption options for this route, from budget-friendly Scoot (TR) choices to premium offerings from Singapore Airlines.

KrisFlyer one-way award rates (SIN–HKG)

  • Economy: 16,500 (Saver) / 30,000 (Advantage)
  • Premium Economy: 26,500 (Saver)
  • Business: 34,000 (Saver) / 50,000 (Advantage)

Old Aircraft, But New Product

All Airbus A380s in the Singapore Airlines fleet are equipped with the latest 2017 cabin design. This includes six private Suites at the front of the upper deck, as well as an upgraded Business Class with a 1-2-1 seating arrangement, and a revamped Premium Economy section with 44 seats.

Passengers can also look forward to enhanced KrisWorld in-flight entertainment and Wi-Fi services. However, while service remains top-notch, certain features like caviar service, amenity kits, and sleeper suits won’t be available on this short-haul route, diverging slightly from the experience on long-distance flights to Europe or Australia.

Despite the A380’s limited return, overall capacity on the Singapore to Hong Kong route still falls significantly short of pre-COVID figures. Singapore Airlines will run five daily flights in summer 2026, reduced from seven prior to the pandemic.

Scoot will add a single daily Airbus A320 service, while it had three daily flights in 2019. Together, the SIA Group will offer about 12,383 weekly seats in each direction, roughly one-third fewer than the 18,519 available in July 2019.

In contrast, Cathay Pacific has reinstated eight of its nine pre-pandemic daily flights; one is operated by the smaller Airbus A321neo, which accommodates over 200 passengers.

Bottom Line

Singapore Airlines plans to fly the Airbus A380 on the Singapore–Hong Kong route for a limited time in mid-2026. This gives travelers a special chance to experience the airline’s latest Suites and Business Class offerings on a short-haul flight.

While award redemptions are possible, high mileage fees for premium cabins make them a more selective option. Overall capacity on this route remains significantly lower compared to pre-pandemic levels, illustrating the gradual recovery of one of Asia’s busiest regional routes.
