Qatar Airways Launches All-Economy A321neo Aircraft for Travelers

Qatar Airways has announced plans to introduce Airbus A321neo aircraft, configured entirely for economy class travel.

The airline is set to integrate three of these planes into its fleet, each designed to accommodate a high-density layout featuring 236 economy seats.

This development has raised eyebrows within the aviation industry, especially since Qatar Airways has primarily focused on the premium market segment in the past.

In response to inquiries from AeroTime, the airline explained that the decision to introduce an all-economy cabin reflects a strong and increasing demand for economy class travel on certain routes.

Beginning in October 2025 and extending through January 2026, these A321neo aircraft will be gradually incorporated into the fleet and utilized on routes connecting Doha’s Hamad International Airport (DOH) with destinations such as Madinah (MED) in Saudi Arabia, Multan (MUX), Sialkot (SKT), and Peshawar (PEW) in Pakistan, as well as Sharjah (SHJ) in the United Arab Emirates and Tbilisi (TBS), Georgia.

It’s important to note that the three new A321neo aircraft with the all-economy setup are separate from the 50-aircraft order Qatar Airways has placed with Airbus.

Originally, the airline ordered 50 aircraft from the A320neo family back in 2011, reaffirming the order in 2017 but then upgrading it to the A321neo model.

However, complications arose due to a legal dispute over maintenance concerns related to some of Qatar Airways’ A350 aircraft. As the legal battle unfolded, Airbus canceled the existing order in early 2021, prompting Qatar Airways to pivot to the Boeing 737 MAX 10. Fortunately, after the two parties reached a resolution in February 2023, the Airbus order was restored. The agreement with Boeing for the 737 MAX 10 was ultimately rescinded in May 2025, as Qatar Airways opted for a more extensive deal for the B787 and B777X aircraft.

As of September 2025, Qatar Airways anticipates the delivery of those 50 A321neo aircraft, which will be built with a business class configuration. Expected deliveries for this order are scheduled to commence in 2026.
