American Airlines Introduces New Destination to Florida Routes
American Airlines Enhances Florida Routes
FORT WORTH- American Airlines (AA) is set to launch nonstop flights connecting Vero Beach Regional Airport (VRB) with Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT), starting on February 12, 2026.
This new year-round service will be operated by American Eagle’s affiliate, PSA Airlines, using CRJ-900 aircraft. The initiative aims to improve connectivity for both leisure travelers and business folks between Florida’s Treasure Coast and a major travel hub.

Flight Operations
American Airlines will provide one daily flight in each direction. Departures from Charlotte (CLT) will start at 10:00 AM, reaching Vero Beach (VRB) at 12:10 PM. The return flight will leave VRB at 12:45 PM and arrive back in CLT at 2:40 PM local time.
The aircraft, a CRJ-900, boasts 12 First Class seats, 12 Main Cabin Extra (extra legroom economy) seats, and 52 standard economy seats.
This regional jet is powered by GE CF34 engines, flying at speeds of approximately Mach 0.78 to Mach 0.82 (around 515-540 mph or 829-871 km/h) based on the flight phase.
Environmental Considerations
With a maximum range of approximately 1,553 nautical miles (about 2,876 km), the CRJ-900 is well-suited for regional travel. Its noise performance includes an approach noise level of about 92.4 EPNdB and a flyover noise of roughly 82.2 EPNdB.
American Airlines is committed to mitigating its environmental impact, acknowledging its flights’ contributions to climate change and aiming for sustainable practices.

Market Trends and Ticket Pricing
Tickets for the Vero Beach (VRB) to Charlotte (CLT) route became available shortly after the announcement. Economy round-trip fares for February 2026 vary from approximately $517 to $557, depending on booking date.
This route marks the first direct connection from Vero Beach to a global airline hub, complementing existing services by Breeze Airways and JetBlue.
Breeze operates multiple routes to the Northeast and has already established a base at VRB, while JetBlue is set to commence its service from Boston (BOS) and New York (JFK) this December.
Future Prospects and Load Factors
Although no specific load factor projections for the new route have been disclosed, American’s network expansions typically see high utilization rates for regional jets connecting to major hubs. Historical data suggests that similar routes achieve load factors between 70% and 80% in the initial months.
Despite the absence of special codeshare details for the VRB-CLT route, connections to international destinations will be available through CLT. It’s important to note that the CRJ-900 consumes approximately 396 gallons (around 1,500 liters) of fuel per hour during cruise.
The route is not expected to have seasonal changes and will operate daily throughout the year.
