Airbus Shifts Tariff Costs to US Airlines: ‘Not Our Problem’
Airbus has stated that U.S. airlines must absorb import tariffs on aircraft delivered from Europe, escalating tensions with carriers reluctant to face these added costs amid ongoing trade disputes. CEO Guillaume Faury clarified that while Airbus will cover tariffs on components sent to its Alabama assembly facility, complete aircraft imports will be the responsibility of U.S. customers. This shift comes as the aviation industry grapples with trade disruptions caused by tariffs from the Trump administration. Several U.S. airlines, including Delta and American Airlines, have protested these costs. Despite challenges, Airbus aims to meet its 2025 target of delivering around 820 aircraft.
Airbus Sets Ambitious December Delivery Goal for 2024
Airbus is striving to meet its CEO Guillaume Faury’s ambitious delivery target of approximately 770 aircraft in 2024, needing to deliver 127 aircraft in December. As of December 6, 2024, the company had delivered 643 aircraft, including significant milestones for Malaysia Airlines and Emirates. Airbus previously reduced its target from 800 due to engine and component shortages. In November, they secured 30 new orders, indicating ongoing demand despite supply chain challenges. To achieve its December goal, Airbus must exceed last year’s 112 deliveries, highlighting the strategic planning and efficiency required in the coming weeks.
Air India Negotiates Purchase of 200 Planes from Boeing, Airbus
Air India is in negotiations with Airbus and Boeing for a significant order potentially comprising around 200 narrowbody jets, as reported by sources at the recent IATA AGM in Delhi. This move reflects Air India’s strategy to expand its fleet to meet rising travel demands. The airline’s CEO described the discussions as “complete speculation,” with both manufacturers declining to comment. This potential order follows Air India’s historic 2023 orders for 470 aircraft, including an additional 100 Airbus jets in December. The deal could greatly impact the global aviation industry as airlines recover from the pandemic.
