Lufthansa Plans Major Overhaul of In-Flight Experience for 100th Anniversary

As Lufthansa Airlines approaches its milestone of 100 years in 2026, the German flag carrier is gearing up to significantly transform the onboard experience for its long-haul travelers.

In a bold move announced on September 24, 2025, Lufthansa unveiled its investment in ‘FOX’—the Future Onboard Experience. This initiative represents a commitment of over 70 million euros aimed at enhancing its premium offerings.

“With this investment, we are focusing on improving our top-tier product, guest satisfaction, and the future direction of our airline,” stated Jens Ritter, CEO of Lufthansa Airlines. He emphasized a commitment to individuality, comfort, and the exceptional Lufthansa Signature Moments that have defined the airline’s service over the past century.

In the structural overhaul under FOX, Lufthansa is revamping all service elements and processes across its economy, premium economy, business, and first-class offerings on long-haul flights, including updates to existing Allegris services.

“FOX embodies our dedication to fulfilling individual preferences, offering flexibility, and nurturing hospitality above the clouds, embodying the distinctive Lufthansa character,” the airline outlined in its announcement.

Lufthansa’s new approach focuses on three key areas: Individuality, Comfort, and Lufthansa Signature Moments.

Individuality

Passengers will gain enhanced opportunities to customize their flight experiences, especially in business class, where they can choose their second meal at their convenience. The airline noted, “This concept provides a diverse menu of savory and sweet dishes, snacks, and hot meals.”

Similarly, economy and premium economy travelers will benefit from an expanded meal selection, with three options available instead of the usual two.

Comfort

To reinforce its premium image, Lufthansa will introduce high-quality amenities, upgraded textiles, and entirely new tableware across all four travel classes. These updates aim to be not only functional but also aesthetically pleasing, emphasizing the onboard premium experience.

Lufthansa remarked, “This is about more than just functionality; it’s about creating a tangible sense of value and pleasure.”

Lufthansa Signature Moments

First-class passengers will enjoy memorable experiences unique to Lufthansa. Signature offerings like the rose and bespoke caviar service in First Class, alongside the Avionic as a noteworthy drink, exemplify the airline’s unparalleled commitment to exceptional service.

“The culinary experience for our travelers will feature a triad of home, variety, and distinctive Lufthansa dishes, all developed by top chefs. This will immerse passengers in diverse culinary adventures inspired by their journey,” the airline shared.

The comprehensive FOX initiative is set to roll out in spring 2026.
