United Airlines Opts Out as Launch Customer for Boeing 737 MAX 10
United Airlines has announced delays in the delivery of its Boeing 737 Max 10 aircraft, originally expected in 2020, now pushed to 2027 or 2028 due to certification challenges. This delay may cause United to lose its status as the launch customer for the Max 10, impacting its fleet strategy. CEO Andrew Nocella highlighted FAA scrutiny following past crashes as a major hurdle. To mitigate the delays, United is increasing its order of Max 9 aircraft, which are more fuel-efficient but have limited capacity. The situation also poses economic challenges for United and Boeing, affecting operational plans and potential revenue.

American Airlines Appeals to Supreme Court on Northeast Alliance
American Airlines has petitioned the US Supreme Court to review its blocked Northeast Alliance (NEA) with JetBlue Airways, following a November 2024 ruling that invalidated the partnership. The NEA aimed to enhance travel options by optimizing flight schedules, resulting in over 200% capacity expansion, 50 new nonstop routes, and increased service frequencies on 130 routes. American Airlines argues the alliance improved competition against major players like Delta and United without raising prices. The outcome of this appeal may significantly impact future airline partnerships and the dynamics of competition in the U.S. aviation market.
