Sun PhuQuoc Airways: Vietnam’s First Leisure Airline Takes to the Skies

The newly established Vietnamese airline, Sun PhuQuoc Airways, has officially begun its commercial operations, marking its entry as the nation’s first leisure-focused airline.

On November 1, 2025, the airline announced the start of three domestic routes: Phu Quoc to Hanoi, Phu Quoc to Ho Chi Minh City, and Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City. These flights are set to operate immediately and will continue throughout 2025.

This launch comes at a significant time, as the airline aims to address the increasing travel demand during Phu Quoc’s peak tourism season and the forthcoming Lunar New Year in 2026.

Nguyen Manh Quan, CEO of Sun PhuQuoc Airways, remarked, “This is not only the beginning of a new airline but also the start of a new approach—where aviation and tourism go hand-in-hand to provide unique travel experiences.”

Celebrations for Inaugural Flights

Founded in May 2025 by the Sun Group, a well-known economic entity in Vietnam, Sun PhuQuoc Airways celebrated its inaugural flight from Hanoi to Phu Quoc, Vietnam’s largest island, early on November 1, 2025. The aircraft, an Airbus A321, took off from Noi Bai International Airport (HAN) with 220 passengers on board, assigned as Flight 9G1203.

Following this, two other flights took off for Phu Quoc—one from Ho Chi Minh City and another from Da Nang—marking a successful first day for the airline. A special celebratory route from Da Nang to Phu Quoc was operated for this occasion, with normal service intended to commence in March 2026.

On its inaugural day, each boarding pass featured the inscription “First Flight – 1.11.2025”, and every passenger received a specially crafted souvenir set that included the airline’s distinctive Sun symbol.

Additionally, the airline is preparing to initiate direct international flights from Phu Quoc to several destinations, including South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Singapore, Hong Kong, and India within the same year.

According to their official announcements, Sun PhuQuoc Airways aims to operate a fleet of six aircraft by 2026, with a total investment reaching VND 2.5 trillion (approximately USD 100 million). The airline also has ambitious plans to expand its route network by 200% and serve ten international destinations by 2026.
