Virgin Atlantic Launches Direct Dreamliner Flights from London to Phuket
On October 30, 2025, Virgin Atlantic revealed plans to launch new flights between London Heathrow Airport (LHR) and Phuket (HKT) in Thailand for the winter season of 2026/27. The daily flights will feature the airline’s Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft.
This new route continues the airline’s trend of seasonal long-haul services from the UK to popular winter sun destinations. Phuket joins other attractive locations such as the Maldives, Cape Town, and Cancun, the latter of which started operations in late October 2025. Alongside these, Virgin Atlantic also connects several Caribbean locations and Dubai, providing year-round sunshine escapes. The UK carrier will collaborate with leisure airline TUI on the London to Phuket route, where TUI operates flights from London-Gatwick Airport (LGW) utilizing Boeing 787 Dreamliners as well.
The new flights, set to commence on October 18, 2026, mark Virgin Atlantic’s return to the Asia-Pacific region. Although the airline has offered routes to places like Tokyo-Narita, Hong Kong, Shanghai, and Sydney in the past, those services were eventually discontinued. Currently, their only ongoing destination in Asia is Seoul, South Korea. The upcoming Phuket flights will be the airline’s inaugural service to a Southeast Asian airport.
Targeting the Leisure Market
Given Virgin Atlantic’s close relationship with its holiday division, Virgin Atlantic Holidays, it’s likely that these services will cater to vacationers. The holiday division already lists flight and accommodation packages on its site, encouraging customers to book early for their trips.
Flight Details
The route will see flights operating three times a week on the airline’s 17-member fleet of 258-seat Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners. The aircraft is configured in three classes, offering 31 flat beds in Upper Class (business class), 35 Premium Economy seats, and 192 seats in Economy class.
New flight timings will include Virgin flight VS214 departing London at 12:00 on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, arriving in Phuket at 07:10 the next morning. For the return journey, flights (VS215) will leave Phuket at 09:20 on Thursdays, Saturdays, and Mondays, reaching Heathrow at 16:00.
Experience Phuket
In a statement from the airline, it was noted, “Beyond its stunning beaches, Phuket boasts a rich culinary scene and cultural attractions ranging from the majestic Golden Buddha at Wat Khao Rang to the twisting streets of old Phuket town, offering a vibrant mix of sun, culture, and adventure.”
Virgin Atlantic Holidays features more than 20 lodging options in Phuket and over 80 across Thailand, covering areas like Khao Lak, Krabi, Koh Phi Phi, Koh Yao Noi/Koh Yao Yai, Hua Hin, Koh Samui, Pattaya, and Bangkok. With a variety of accommodations—from luxury boutique eco-resorts to family-friendly hotels and tranquil adults-only retreats—there’s something available for every traveler, whether they seek adventure or a luxury escape.
Additionally, a partnership with Bangkok Airways facilitates easy transfers for those eager to explore beyond Phuket, with options to destinations like Bangkok, Koh Samui, and Krabi.
