IndiGo Management Faces Regulatory Notice for Flight Disruptions

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), the Indian body responsible for aviation oversight, has issued a show cause notice to IndiGo’s Chief Executive Officer, Pieter Elbers, and Chief Operating Officer, Isidre Porqueras.

A show cause notice is a formal request requiring the recipient to clarify a specific issue within a stipulated timeframe. If the explanation provided is found lacking, those involved could face serious repercussions, such as fines or the revocation of their licenses.

What stands out in this situation is that the notice targets Elbers and Porqueras personally, rather than the airline itself.

This development follows several days of significant disruptions in IndiGo’s operations, which resulted in numerous flight cancellations and left many passengers stuck at airports.

The core issue appears to stem from IndiGo’s failure to adhere to newly established regulations, specifically the Flight Duty Time Limitation (FDTL). These rules dictate the required rest and duty times for airline crews. Allegations suggest that IndiGo did not organize its crew rotations in line with these regulations, resulting in grounded aircraft and widespread operational challenges.

In a recent press release, IndiGo reported that by the evening of December 6, 2025, it had successfully restored over 95% of its operations and was back in service at 135 out of 138 destinations.

What do you think this means for the future of IndiGo and its leadership?
