Pegasus Partners with CFM International for B737 MAX LEAP Engines

Pegasus Airlines has recently finalized a contract with CFM International for up to 300 LEAP-1B engines. These engines are set to power the airline’s upcoming fleet of Boeing 737-10 aircraft. The agreement also encompasses the delivery of spare engines and comprehensive long-term maintenance services from the engine manufacturer.

The connection between this Turkish carrier and CFM International has deep roots. In fact, Pegasus Airlines became the inaugural operator of the LEAP engine on August 2, 2016, when one of its Airbus A320neos flew from Istanbul Sabiha-Gökcen (SAW) to Antalya (AYT) using CFM International’s LEAP-1A engines.

Additionally, Pegasus Airlines has utilized previous generations of CFM engines, notably the CFM56-5B and CFM56-7B models.

Güliz Öztürk, the CEO of Pegasus Airlines, emphasized the significance of this enduring partnership when announcing the new LEAP deal.

“Since we launched operations in 1990, CFM engines have played a major role in helping Pegasus build a reliable, efficient fleet that serves our customers. We have been extremely pleased with the operation of the LEAP engine family and look forward to bringing the same performance and stability to our Boeing 737-10 fleet. The lower emissions and higher fuel efficiency of LEAP-1B engines will significantly contribute to both our 2030 CO2 reduction target and the 2050 net-zero CO2 industry emissions goal.”

In December 2024, Pegasus Airlines made headlines by placing its largest single order to date, requesting 100 Boeing 737 MAX 10 aircraft along with 100 additional options. This surprising move came as the airline was shifting towards an all-Airbus fleet until that point. Furthermore, in 2023, it augmented its existing A321neo order by 36 aircraft, raising the total to 150.
