Lufthansa Unveils Special B787-9 Livery to Celebrate 100 Years of Aviation
Lufthansa recently introduced the first aircraft adorned with a unique livery to celebrate the airline’s 100th anniversary. The aircraft, a Boeing 787-9 bearing registration D-ABPU, arrived at Frankfurt International Airport (FRA) on December 23, 2025, after being delivered from the manufacturer in Everett, Washington.
Aviation enthusiasts, airline staff, and spotters eagerly awaited this moment. Jens Ritter, the CEO of Lufthansa, expressed his excitement, stating, “These are the particularly beautiful and unforgettable moments in our job. It’s always special to take delivery of a brand-new aircraft, but today’s landing of the anniversary Boeing 787-9, showcasing the extraordinary livery marking the 100th anniversary of ‘Luft Hansa,’ is even more thrilling.”
The distinctive livery features a striking dark blue across the fuselage, excluding the center and wings. These areas display a large white crane, symbolizing the German flag carrier.
In addition to this aircraft, five more will receive the special livery throughout 2026. These include an Airbus A380, an Airbus A350-1000, an Airbus A350-900, an Airbus A320, and a Boeing 747-8.
While Lufthansa as it is known today was established in 1953, the airline traces its roots back to the pre-war Lufthansa founded on January 6, 1926.
