Vueling’s 2035 Plan and Boeing 737 MAX Launch Schedule Revealed

Vueling, the budget airline based in Barcelona and part of International Airlines Group (IAG), recently introduced “Rumbo 2035,” a strategic plan aimed at shaping its future over the next decade. This announcement was made on January 14, 2026.

In a statement, Vueling’s CEO, Carolina Martinoli, shared that the airline is set to invest €5 billion by 2030. The ambitious goal is to increase their annual passenger count from 40 million to 60 million by 2035.

Fleet Renewal Strategy

One noteworthy element of Vueling’s strategy is its fleet renewal plan, which has caught the attention of industry experts. The airline has announced a significant transition from its all-Airbus fleet to a fleet of Boeing 737 MAX aircraft.

IAG has secured an initial order of 50 Boeing 737 MAX 8 planes. The first delivery is anticipated in October 2026, with subsequent deliveries scheduled later that same year. This transition is expected to unfold over seven to eight years, during which both aircraft types will operate together.

Fuel Efficiency and Market Commitment

By upgrading its fleet, Vueling aims to enhance fuel efficiency, projecting savings around 20%. The airline also reiterated its commitment to Barcelona-El Prat (BCN) airport, where it already holds a 40% market share. According to their assessment, achieving the objectives laid out in the 2035 roadmap could contribute approximately €10.5 billion annually to the Catalan economy.
