Skytrans Airlines Transforms into SmartLynx Australia: What You Need to Know
SmartLynx Australia: A New Chapter for the Airline
Australian airline Skytrans has undergone a rebranding, now known as SmartLynx Australia. This change aligns its identity with other carriers under the Avia Solutions Group umbrella, including SmartLynx Airlines in Europe and Thai SmartLynx in Thailand.
As SmartLynx Australia, the airline mainly focuses on the charter and ACMI (Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance, and Insurance) market. It also operates scheduled passenger flights in northern Australia, connecting Cairns (CNS) with various destinations across Queensland and the Torres Straits area.
The rebranding symbolizes a deeper integration into the Avia Solutions Group, which officially acquired Skytrans in March 2024. The airline will maintain its regular service operations while anticipating an expansion of its ACMI services throughout the Asia-Pacific region, utilizing both turboprop and narrowbody jet aircraft.
In this strategic move, Avia Solutions Group aims to address the seasonal nature of its ACMI business and adapt to demand shifts in its global markets.
“The new brand marks a new stage for the business – one that bridges the quality transportation services Skytrans was known for locally and the new line of business – ACMI – that Avia Solutions Group has perfected,” stated Gytis Gumuliauskas, the Managing Director and CEO of SmartLynx Australia, in a recent press release.
SmartLynx Australia holds one of the twelve Air Operator Certificates (AOC) within the Avia Solutions Group. As of July 2025, the airline’s fleet comprises 12 aircraft, featuring Airbus A319 jets alongside several variations of the DeHavilland Canada DHC-8 turboprop.
