FAA Warns: Boeing 787 Lavatory Could Detach Mid-Flight
The FAA has proposed a new Airworthiness Directive (AD) to address safety concerns regarding corrosion in the lavatories of Boeing 787 aircraft models 787-8, 787-9, and 787-10. This corrosion, caused by the interaction of aluminum and carbon fiber, could lead to lavatories detaching during turbulence, risking passenger and crew safety. The directive mandates airlines to conduct thorough inspections of affected components, document findings, and carry out necessary repairs. Estimated implementation costs are around $7,650 per operator. The proposal is open for public comment until May 22, 2025, before finalization. Compliance will be required unless alternative methods are approved.
