Hawaiian Airlines Commits $600 Million to Enhance Passenger Experience

Hawaiian Airlines has unveiled an ambitious investment initiative worth $600 million, aimed at enhancing its passenger experience and modernizing infrastructure over the next five years.

The Kahu‘ewai Hawai‘i Investment Plan, revealed on January 5, 2026, will focus on various customer touchpoints, including aircraft interiors, airport facilities, and IT platforms.

The airline’s Airbus A330 fleet, consisting of 24 aircraft, will see a complete cabin refit featuring new seats, carpets, and lighting. Additionally, new business class seats will be introduced, along with the launch of a premium economy cabin. As part of this upgrade, three A330s currently under lease will be added to the airline’s roster.

On the ground, Hawaiian Airlines is committed to significantly enhancing the passenger experience. Plans include the construction of a new flagship lounge at Honolulu (HNL) spanning 10,600 square feet (approximately 984.7 square meters). Existing lounges at four other Hawaiian airports—Līhu‘e (LIH), Kahului (OGG), Kona (KOA), and Hilo (ITO)—will also receive extensive renovations.

In the realm of technology, Hawaiian Airlines aims to simplify both the customer journey and internal procedures through the development of a new website and app, alongside new IT tools. These enhancements will facilitate better integration with Alaska Airlines and the airline’s new oneworld partners.

A portion of the investment will also focus on sustainability and community efforts. This includes acquiring Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), establishing a startup fund and business accelerator geared toward supporting Hawaiian companies, and initiating various community engagement projects across the islands.

Hawaii’s Governor, Josh Green, celebrated this extensive investment program, emphasizing its potential to further solidify the islands as a leading tourist destination.
