Global Airlines Launches First Direct Flight from Glasgow to New York
In a groundbreaking achievement for the UK travel industry, British startup carrier Global Airlines has successfully launched its inaugural passenger flight from Glasgow, Scotland, to New York, USA. This historic flight marks Global Airlines as the first British airline to offer direct service on this route, providing travelers with a new option for transatlantic travel.
On May 15, 2025, the Airbus A380, registered as 9H-GLOBL and adorned in Global Airlines’ signature colors, took off from Glasgow Airport (GLA) at 11:33 AM local time, bound for John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) in New York. This milestone flight is a significant step forward for the airline, which aims to enhance connectivity between the UK and the United States.
Flight Details and Future Schedule
- Return Flight: The aircraft is scheduled to return to Scotland on May 19, 2025.
- Manchester Route: Following the Glasgow route, the airline will operate a flight from Manchester (MAN) to New York (JFK) on May 21, 2025, identified as flight HFM810, returning to Manchester on May 25, 2025, as flight HFM811.
While Global Airlines has made headlines with its first transatlantic flight, it currently lacks the necessary permits and slots for regular services to the US. As a result, these flights are operated by Hi Fly Malta, a Maltese subsidiary of the Portuguese charter airline Hi Fly.
Limited Flight Schedule and Booking Information
At present, Global Airlines has only four transatlantic charter flights scheduled, which can be booked through Travelopedia. The airline has yet to announce a regular flight schedule beyond these initial flights, leaving travelers eager to learn about future offerings.
