SkyUp Launches New Scheduled Flights from Chișinău, Moldova
SkyUp Airlines Launches Direct Flights from Chișinău, Expanding European Travel Options for Ukrainians
Ukrainian airline SkyUp has announced an exciting development for travelers: the introduction of direct flights to popular European destinations from its new base in Chișinău, Moldova. Set to launch in April 2025, these flights will utilize SkyUp’s fleet of Boeing 737 aircraft, providing a vital link for those wishing to travel despite ongoing challenges in Ukrainian airspace.
SkyUp’s New Routes and Schedule
With the Ukrainian airspace remaining closed since the Russian invasion in February 2022, SkyUp has adapted by operating charter flights from international bases. The new service from Chișinău International Airport (RMO) aims to meet the travel needs of Ukrainians seeking to connect with family and conduct business abroad. The airport is conveniently located approximately 60 miles (90 km) from the Ukrainian border and 370 miles (590 km) from Kyiv.
The newly launched flights will serve the following destinations:
- Paris-Beauvais (BVA): Twice weekly (Monday and Friday)
- Lisbon (LIS): Once weekly (Friday)
- Barcelona (BCN): One per week (Wednesdays), increasing to three per week
- Alicante (ALC): Twice weekly (Monday and Friday)
- Palma de Mallorca (PMI): Twice weekly (Wednesday and Saturday)
- Larnaca (LCA): Three times per week
- Thessaloniki (SKG): Once per week (Tuesday)
- Heraklion (HER): Three times per week (Monday, Wednesday, Saturday), increasing to four times per week
Commitment to Ukrainian Travelers
In a recent statement, SkyUp emphasized its commitment to maintaining connections for Ukrainians. “Although Ukrainian airspace remains closed to civilian aviation, the demand for travel—whether to visit relatives or for business—remains strong,” the airline stated.
Dmytro Seroukhov, CEO of SkyUp Airlines, reflected on the challenges faced since the invasion. “To maintain our team, fleet, and operations, we had to adapt quickly to the global aviation market,” he noted. Seroukhov expressed pride in SkyUp’s resilience and its role as an international brand with Ukrainian roots.
Operational Capacity and Future Plans
SkyUp Airlines currently operates a fleet of seven Boeing 737 Next Generation jets, along with seven 737 MAX aircraft on order from Boeing. This expansion will allow the airline to enhance its service offerings and continue meeting the travel needs of its customers.
As travel restrictions ease, SkyUp’s new routes from Chișinău are positioned to provide affordable and modern air travel options, ensuring that Ukrainian aviation remains resilient in the face of adversity.
