Bengaluru Woman Falls Victim to Ticket Fraud at Airport: A Cautionary Tale
BENGALURU – In a troubling incident highlighting the rising issue of ticket fraud, a 24-year-old woman unknowingly attempted to board a flight at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) in Bengaluru using a fake ticket on February 11, 2025. This unfortunate event underscores the importance of verifying travel bookings to prevent falling victim to fraudulent schemes.
The woman had booked her ticket through an agent recommended by friends, believing she was set to fly to Ranchi on a SpiceJet flight. However, her ticket turned out to be counterfeit, leading to a swift airport security alert and subsequent police involvement, as reported by Deccan Herald.

Scheduled to fly on SpiceJet flight SG320, the woman arrived at the Passenger Terminal Building Gate of Terminal 1 around 7:30 AM. Airline officials quickly noticed a critical error; the flight was not heading to Ranchi but instead was operating between Bengaluru and Guwahati, Assam.
Upon discovering the fraudulent nature of the ticket, SpiceJet officials alerted the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF). The CISF detained the woman for further questioning about her booking and the agent involved.
During the police inquiry, the woman stated she had paid the full fare to the agent but failed to verify the authenticity of her ticket. The authorities issued a notice for her to provide transaction details, including payment records and the agent’s contact information. Although initially detained, she was later released after it was determined she was a victim of fraud.
Despite her innocence, the Bengaluru International Airport Limited (BIAL) police filed an FIR against her under sections 336(2) (forgery) and 340 (use of forged documents or electronic records) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Meanwhile, an investigation is underway to locate the fraudulent agent responsible for issuing the fake ticket.
