New Investor Sought for Air Albania After Turkish Airlines Decide to Sell

The board of Turkish Airlines has made the decision to divest its 49% ownership in Air Albania, marking a significant milestone seven years after the Albanian flag carrier was allowed to commence operations.

On November 19, 2025, Turkish Airlines informed investors of its intentions to sell all shares in Air Albania, initiating the search for alternative investment opportunities.

Currently, other investors in Air Albania include MDN Investment, which owns 41% and played a crucial role in establishing the airline in partnership with Turkish Airlines in 2018, as well as the state-owned Albcontrol, which holds a 10% stake.

When Air Albania was launched, Prime Minister Edi Rama acknowledged the support of Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan, which contributed to making the airline’s inception possible, as reported by Reuters.

This announcement from Turkish Airlines comes shortly after the completion of a $349 million (€300 million) deal for a minority stake in the Spanish airline Air Europa.

On November 6, 2025, a spokesperson noted that the acquisition is expected to range between 25% and 27%, following necessary technical and financial adjustments at closing.

The decision to invest in Air Europa is part of Turkish Airlines’ strategy to bolster its position in the global aviation market while also boosting tourism to Turkey.

The airline underscored the economic advantages of this move, which aims to unlock new tourism markets in Latin America and enhance both passenger and cargo connectivity between Spain and Turkey.

As of now, Air Albania operates one Airbus A320-200, which is wet leased from Fly2Sky, according to reports from ch-aviation.
