Cathay Pacific Celebrates Graduation of New Cadet Pilots in Innovative Training Program
Cathay Pacific recently marked a significant milestone with the graduation of its latest cohort of cadet pilots from the esteemed Cadet Pilot Training Program. This group holds the distinction of being the first to complete their ground theory training at the airline’s newly established Cathay Academy, showcasing the airline’s commitment to nurturing aviation talent.
Comprising 34 newly minted pilots, this batch underwent rigorous training at the AeroGuard Flight Training Center in Arizona and completed Multi Crew Cooperation (MCC) training using advanced flight simulators at Cathay Academy. As of May 16, 2025, these cadet pilots have officially joined Cathay Pacific as Second Officers, embarking on their flying careers. Currently, over 500 cadet pilots are progressing through the Cathay Pacific Cadet Pilot Training Program.
Commitment to Developing Aviation Talent
“Developing aviation talent has always been a priority for Cathay,” stated Alex McGowan, Cathay’s Chief Operations and Service Delivery Officer. He emphasized the importance of the Cadet Pilot Training Program in cultivating world-class aviators. Many graduates have advanced to hold senior training and key flying leadership roles within the airline.
“This graduation is particularly noteworthy as it marks our first cohort of cadet pilots trained in-house at Cathay Academy. Our tailored approach ensures the highest quality training, fosters closer connections with our future pilots, and enhances their overall educational experience,” McGowan added during the graduation ceremony.
Comprehensive Training Pathway
Cathay Pacific employs a multi-path integrated approach to pilot training, incorporating collaborations with the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and its own Cathay Academy. The structured training process includes:
- Theoretical Ground Training: Conducted at Cathay Academy.
