IndiGo Expands International Network: New Routes and Fleet Growth Planned for 2026

In an exciting announcement on May 30, 2025, IndiGo, India’s leading low-cost airline, revealed a significant expansion of its international network for 2026. With plans to add at least ten new international routes within the next year, IndiGo aims to elevate its total number of international destinations to 50. This strategic move was disclosed by IndiGo’s CEO, Pieter Elbers, during a press conference held ahead of the International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Delhi from June 1-3, 2025.

New International Routes and Destinations

IndiGo’s expansion includes both anticipated and surprising destinations. While routes like Mumbai (BOM) to Manchester (MAN) and Amsterdam (AMS) are set to launch in July 2025, the airline is also focusing on enhancing its European presence. Noteworthy new nonstop flights will be introduced to:

  • London Gatwick (LGW)
  • Athens (ATH)
  • Copenhagen (CPH)

In addition to its European routes, IndiGo is broadening its reach in Southeast Asia with a new destination in Siem Reap, Cambodia (SIA). The airline is also entering Central Asia, reactivating services to Almaty (ALA) and Tashkent (TAS), and adding four additional routes in the region.

Furthermore, IndiGo plans to increase capacity on key international routes, including:

  • Tbilisi, Georgia (TBS)
  • Denpasar, Bali (DPS), Indonesia
  • Ho Chi Minh City (SGN) and Hanoi (HAN), Vietnam

Expansion in Domestic Operations

On the domestic front, IndiGo is set to launch operations at Hindon (HDO) and Adampur (AIP). The airline is also preparing to serve two new major airports currently under development: Noida (NDX) near Delhi and Navi Mumbai Airport (NMI). IndiGo anticipates being the first airline to operate from Navi Mumbai Airport once it becomes operational.

Fleet Growth and Long-Haul Expansion Plans

To support its ambitious growth, IndiGo is steadily expanding its fleet. The airline is currently adding approximately one new aircraft per week and aims to operate a fleet of 600 aircraft by 2030. As part of its long-haul expansion strategy, IndiGo is damp-leasing six Boeing B787 aircraft from Norse Atlantic Airways. These aircraft will serve as a temporary solution until 2027, when the airline will begin receiving 30 Airbus A350 aircraft, which will complement the Airbus A321XLRs also on order.

New Maintenance Facility in Bengaluru

In addition to expanding its flight network, IndiGo has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bangalore International Airport Ltd. (BIAL) to establish a maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) center at Kempegowda International Airport (BLR) in Bengaluru. The facility, covering 31 hectares, will service both narrow-body and wide-body aircraft, further supporting IndiGo’s operational capabilities.
