Virgin Atlantic Resumes Flights to Asian Destination After Two-Year Break

LONDON- Virgin Atlantic Airways (VS) is set to reinstate its flights to Pakistan, following the green light from the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (CAA). The airline will connect London Heathrow (LHR) with Karachi (KHI), Islamabad (ISB), and Lahore (LHE) starting in October 2025.

After suspending its services in 2023, the British airline will reintroduce routes via Riyadh (RUH), reestablishing direct links between the UK and Pakistan. This initiative showcases the airline’s commitment to expanding its long-haul operations in South Asia.

Virgin Atlantic Set to Restart Flights to Pakistan

Virgin Atlantic (VS) will revive its connections between London and three major cities in Pakistan: Karachi (KHI), Islamabad (ISB), and Lahore (LHE).

The airline initially launched services to Pakistan in December 2020, providing both passenger and cargo options before halting operations in 2023.

With the recent approval from the CAA, the airline will resume flights through Riyadh (RUH), allowing for seamless connections from Pakistan to various destinations across Europe and North America via London Heathrow (LHR).

Reasons for the Previous Suspension in 2023

In 2023, Virgin Atlantic had to suspend its flights from London Heathrow (LHR) to Lahore (LHE) and Islamabad (ISB). The airline cited a comprehensive review of its global network and the need to adjust schedules while navigating challenges post-pandemic.

This decision resulted in a temporary loss of direct flight options for those relying on the airline for travel between the UK and Pakistan.

The airline’s return later this year indicates a renewed assessment of demand and route feasibility, positioning itself for both business and leisure travel between the two nations.

Significance of Flights Resumption

The return of these flights is anticipated to bolster travel and trade relations between Pakistan and the UK. Given the substantial Pakistani diaspora in the UK, demand for these routes has historically been strong, particularly during busy travel periods.

Virgin Atlantic’s re-entry into the market introduces competition in an area often dominated by Pakistan International Airlines (PK), British Airways (BA), and various Middle Eastern airlines like Emirates (EK), Qatar Airways (QR), and Etihad Airways (EY).

This expanded capacity is projected to improve travel options, enhance pricing flexibility, and boost cargo opportunities between the two regions.
