Spirit Airlines Halts Services at 2 US Airports During Restructuring
Spirit Airlines, known for its low fares, will wind down operations at Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport (MSP) by the end of 2025.
Services to and from MSP will be halted starting December 1, 2025. Additionally, flights to Bradley International Airport (BDL) in Hartford, Connecticut, will also cease on October 31, 2025.
A company representative confirmed the changes in a statement to the Minnesota Star Tribune on September 29, 2025. This move is part of Spirit’s ongoing restructuring efforts to focus on more profitable markets.
In their communication, Spirit expressed gratitude toward their airport, business, and community partners in both Connecticut and Minnesota for their support over the years.
Changes Beyond Minneapolis
Spirit Airlines is not just cutting routes in Minnesota. Following its recent bankruptcy filing, the airline announced that a dozen other U.S. airports will also lose service starting October 2025.
Alongside these airport reductions, Spirit is reportedly implementing a 25% reduction in its November 2025 schedule. According to a note sent to employees on September 26, 2025, around 40 routes will be suspended as part of this adjustment.
Future Outlook
In a recent update, Spirit Airlines noted plans to furlough approximately one-third of its 5,200 flight attendants beginning November 1, 2025.
Given these developments, the airline’s future stability has become a topic of concern. Spirit filed for Chapter 11 protection in New York on August 29, 2025, just about six months after it emerged from its previous bankruptcy in March 2025.
