Korean Air and Anduril Team Up on UAV Solutions for Wildfire Response

Korean Air has announced a partnership with the US-based defense technology firm, Anduril, aimed at developing an advanced unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) operating system specifically designed to fight large-scale wildfires.

This collaboration builds on a Teaming Agreement initiated in August 2025, focusing on the joint development of unmanned systems within Korea and the wider Asia-Pacific region.

Combining Strengths for Wildfire Response

The partnership uniquely blends Korean Air’s expertise in drone technology and operations with Anduril’s innovative wildfire response platform. The goal is to synergize their strengths, creating a robust solution capable of rapidly detecting and extinguishing wildfires where they emerge.

The designed solution will streamline the wildfire response workflow, reducing the need for human input. Powered by Anduril’s Lattice software and employing tools like the Fury autonomous vehicle, this platform will unify monitoring data from aerial, terrestrial, and orbital sensors into a cohesive operational view.

Immediate Action Upon Fire Detection

As explained by Korean Air, once a wildfire is detected, operators receive real-time alerts, allowing them to deploy Anduril’s autonomous aerial vehicles (AAVs) along with Korean Air’s UAVs. These drones can assess the fire’s characteristics autonomously before further mobilizing quick-response drones or piloted air tankers for containment.

A Significant Issue in South Korea

South Korea experiences between 500 to 900 wildfires annually, with the most frequent occurrences during spring months, specifically from March to May.

Palmer Luckey, the Founder of Anduril Industries, remarked, “Wildfires are a global crisis, but the way we fight them is antiquated.” He continued, “By integrating Korean Air’s UAVs into Anduril’s end-to-end wildfire response platform, we will significantly enhance wildfire response through automation, comprehensiveness, and scalability—ultimately saving lives and reducing property damage.”

A Commitment to Global Challenges

A spokesperson from Korean Air stated, “This partnership harnesses our expertise in unmanned systems to tackle a critical global challenge. Our aim is to provide first responders with advanced technology to safeguard lives and property from the devastating effects of wildfires.”
