British Airways Expands Its US Network with New St. Louis Destination

British Airways is set to broaden its transatlantic network with the introduction of a new direct flight from London Heathrow to St. Louis, Missouri. Scheduled to begin on April 19, 2026, this route will operate four times a week, covering a distance of 4,200 miles (6,720 km) and continuing through the busy northern European summer season.

This new route marks British Airways as the only UK airline offering direct flights to St. Louis, a city celebrated for its rich history, vibrant culture, and unique character. The route was previously served daily from London-Gatwick Airport by TWA during the 1980s and 1990s. Passengers will have the option to choose from three travel classes: business, premium economy, and economy.

Flight Schedule

The flight schedule has been released, indicating that the outbound flight (BA221) will depart from London Heathrow (LHR) at 16:25 on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. It is expected to arrive at St. Louis-Lambert International Airport (STL) at 19:30 local time. The return flight (BA220) will leave St. Louis at 22:00 and arrive back at Heathrow at 12:05 local time.

A Celebration of Route 66

The launch of this new route coincides with the centennial celebration of Route 66, the iconic highway that starts in Chicago, cutting through St. Louis on its way to Los Angeles. This segment, often deemed the ‘Mother Road,’ is known for its nostalgic charm, featuring vintage diners, neon signs, historic motels, and fascinating roadside attractions. According to British Airways, this makes St. Louis a perfect starting point for travelers eager for a classic American road trip.

The city is also home to the notable Gateway Arch, along with vibrant neighborhoods, lush parks, and lively food and music scenes, offering a little something for everyone.

Endless Attractions

Beyond its Route 66 connections, St. Louis boasts Forest Park, one of the largest urban parks in the United States, a variety of free museums, and a burgeoning craft beer culture. These features contribute to making it a fantastic destination for both short getaways and longer explorations. St. Louis also has a rich sports heritage with local teams like the St. Louis Cardinals (MLB), the Blues (NHL), and City Soccer Club (MLS), earning it the title of ‘Ultimate Sports City’ by ESPN The Magazine.

Neil Chernoff, British Airways’ Chief Planning and Strategy Officer, remarked, “St. Louis is a remarkable addition to our US route network. It is not just a city steeped in history and culture but also a gateway to thrilling destinations beyond. Our direct route offers exciting opportunities for our customers and further enhances the connections between the UK and the US Midwest.”

Expanding Reach

With this new service, St. Louis becomes British Airways’ 27th US destination, ensuring that the airline continues to lead in the number of cities it connects in the United States. With the new flights, British Airways passengers will join one of the most extensive global networks available through the airline’s Atlantic Joint Business partnership with Oneworld members such as American Airlines, Iberia, and Finnair.

Looking ahead, the launch of St. Louis flights follows recent frequency increases to various US destinations. Starting Summer 2026, British Airways will reinstate its double-daily service to Miami and daily flights to Dallas-Fort Worth, as these routes previously faced frequency reductions in 2025 due to aircraft availability. Additionally, the airline plans to ramp up flights to Las Vegas from 10 to 13 per week, as well as offering 14 flights per week to both San Diego and Austin. Flights to New York (JFK) will exclusively operate from London Heathrow, featuring nine daily return services.
