KLM Unveils Netherlands’ First A350 Simulator Ahead of Launch
KLM has taken a significant step by installing the first Airbus A350 flight simulator in the Netherlands as it prepares for the aircraft’s debut in 2026.
On October 3, 2025, the airline announced that the state-of-the-art simulator is operational. The initial training sessions for A350 pilots are set to commence soon.
In 2023, the Air France-KLM Group placed an order for 50 Airbus A350 aircraft, consisting of both the A350-900 and A350-1000 variants, along with options for an additional 40 planes.
Benjamin Smith, CEO of Air France-KLM, remarked, “This new order will be a major step in the renewal of the Group’s fleet. The Airbus A350 is a state-of-the-art aircraft with an excellent track record at Air France, where it has rapidly become a favorite among passengers and crew since its entry into service in 2019.”
The new simulator was constructed by CAE in Montreal, Canada, where extensive testing of its cockpit and systems took place before it was disassembled and shipped to Europe.
KLM noted that the installation posed logistical challenges because of the simulator’s large size. It was unable to fit through the main gate and had to be lifted over a fence to reach its destination.
The simulator is now located at the KLM facility in Schiphol-East, conveniently close to Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (AMS).
