Abra Group Expands Fleet Ahead of Upcoming US IPO
Abra Group, the holding company for Avianca, GOL, and Wamos, announced on October 16, 2025, plans to enhance its fleet by acquiring up to seven Airbus A330-900neo aircraft. Additionally, it has secured firm options for 50 Airbus A320neo aircraft.
This latest order adds to the existing 88 A320neo aircraft already in the pipeline, bringing the total to 138 aircraft for the Latin American group.
Avianca will primarily utilize the new A320neos, but the allocation for the A330neos remains undetermined. Abra Group noted in a press release that the deployment of these aircraft will be guided by operational and commercial considerations when they become available.
The A320neo aircraft will feature Airbus’ innovative Airspace cabin design, which includes spacious overhead baggage bins and mood-enhancing LED lighting to improve passenger comfort. Notably, the aircraft’s front section will house RECARO Premium seats specifically designed for Avianca.
With the addition of the 96 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft currently on order, Abra Group’s narrowbody fleet options now total 234.
Deliveries of the A320neos are anticipated to commence at the end of 2025 and will continue until 2032; however, there is no confirmed schedule for the A330neo deliveries.
Avianca has traditionally operated the Boeing 787, but this latest order signals Abra Group’s strategic shift toward Airbus for strengthening its long-haul fleet. This follows a previous agreement made at the 2024 Farnborough Air Show for five Airbus A350-900 widebody aircraft.
Additionally, on October 15, 2025, Abra Group announced its intent for an Initial Public Offering (IPO) in the United States, confirming that it has initiated the required paperwork with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
In related news, the same week revealed that Abra Group obtained an Air Operator Certificate (AOC) to establish a new airline in Chile, separate from its existing minority shareholding in SKY Airline.
