Lufthansa’s Discover Airlines to Grow Fleet to 40 A350s by 2028
Discover Airlines, a branch of the Lufthansa Group dedicated to leisure travel, has unveiled plans for its fleet expansion in the upcoming years.
On October 16, 2026, the airline announced ambitions to expand its fleet to 40 aircraft by mid-2028. This growth will include the addition of four Airbus A350-900 aircraft, marking the introduction of a new aircraft type for Discover Airlines.
With these new Airbus A350-900s, Discover Airlines aims to explore additional destinations that are currently unreachable with its existing A330 fleet. While the specifics were not detailed in the announcement, it’s anticipated that these A350-900s will be sourced from the Lufthansa Group’s existing order with Airbus.
The airline also plans to increase its fleet of Airbus A320 narrowbody aircraft by adding four more, raising the total to 20. Two of these new A320s are expected to arrive in 2026, with the remaining two set to join by 2028.
Changes to the widebody fleet are also on the horizon. In addition to the four A350-900s, three Airbus A330-200s will be retired. They will be replaced with five larger A330-300 aircraft, resulting in a total of 16 A330-300s by 2028.
Some of these updates, such as retiring the A330-200s and expanding the A330-300 and A320 fleets, were initially revealed in August 2024. At that time, the airline also announced plans to introduce a new business class offering and further fleet expansion.
Every aircraft in the Discover Airlines fleet, whether new or legacy, will feature the latest cabin designs across all service classes—Business, Premium Economy, and Economy.
