Alaska Airlines Resumes Flights Following 2025 IT System Disruption
Alaska Airlines has resumed its services after an IT outage led to a temporary halt of flights across the United States. This incident marks the second time within a few months that the airline has faced such a challenge in 2025.
In a recent statement released on October 24, 2025, Alaska Airlines confirmed that the ground stop was lifted at 23:30 local Pacific time, fully restoring all operations.
On the afternoon of October 24, 2025, the airline had to cancel over 229 flights. According to flight-tracking platform Flightradar24, the outage resulted in approximately 100 fewer Alaska Airlines aircraft in operation compared to the prior week.
“We are working diligently to restore our operations as swiftly and safely as possible,” the airline stated. They also cautioned that further disruptions might occur while they reposition aircraft and crews throughout the network.
Passenger feedback on social media reflected considerable frustration over the flight disruptions. Some travelers reported being on hold for nearly five hours, while others pointed out the airline’s ongoing service issues and questioned management accountability.
“We appreciate our guests’ patience as we navigate these travel disruptions. Our team is working hard to get everyone to their destinations as soon as possible,” the airline added, urging passengers to verify the status of their flights before heading to the airport.
The outage reportedly began around 15:30 local time on October 23, 2025, due to an issue at its primary data center.
“Alaska Airlines is currently experiencing an IT outage that has resulted in a systemwide ground stop affecting both Alaska and Horizon Air flights. Hawaiian Airlines flights remain unaffected,” the airline stated.
The disruption affected several essential systems necessary for operations, and Alaska Airlines clarified that this incident was not related to cybersecurity concerns or any other events.
Notably, this incident marks the second IT outage affecting the airline this year. A similar situation arose in July 2025, during which flights were grounded for roughly three hours.
