Air New Zealand Expands Flights from Christchurch to Rarotonga
CHRISTCHURCH- Air New Zealand (NZ) is set to broaden its international offerings with a new seasonal route connecting Christchurch (CHC) to Rarotonga (RAR).
This route will be operational from May to October 2026, providing direct flights to the gorgeous Cook Islands.

Flight Details from Christchurch to Rarotonga
Commencing 26 May 2026, flights will depart Christchurch at 3:40 PM on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. The return flights will leave Rarotonga at 11:30 PM on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
This new service will feature up to three flights each week, with a total availability of 18,000 seats, allowing South Island travelers more opportunities to escape the winter chill.
Air New Zealand’s Chief Executive Officer, Nikhil Ravishankar, emphasized the airline’scommitment to strengthening international connections from Christchurch. “This direct service has been initiated due to growing customer interest, particularly from families looking for convenient holiday options,” he remarked. The timing before the July school holiday makes it even more attractive for families seeking warmer weather.
Justin Watson, Chief Executive of Christchurch Airport, echoed this sentiment, noting the long-standing popularity of Rarotonga among South Islanders. “This new flight simplifies travel for our community and enhances the international offerings of our airport,” he stated.
Bookings for this new flight route will be available from 5 November 2025, pending regulatory approval.
