Hainan Airlines Welcomes China’s First Airbus A330-900neo Delivery

Hainan Airlines has proudly welcomed its first Airbus A330-900neo into its fleet, becoming the very first operator of this aircraft type in mainland China. The new aircraft, designated B-32MU, made its journey from Airbus’s facility in Toulouse, France, landing in Haikou, China on November 1, 2025.

This delivery marks a significant achievement for both Hainan Airlines and Airbus. For the airline, it signifies an important phase in its fleet modernization initiative following a recent restructuring and network enhancement. For Airbus, this delivery heralds the introduction of the A330neo in one of the world’s most crucial widebody markets, solidifying its strategy to enhance its footprint in Asia’s long-haul sector.

The Airbus A330-900neo is equipped with advanced Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines and represents the latest iteration of the successful A330 lineage. With features like sophisticated composite wingtips, improved aerodynamics, and an upgraded cabin designed for enhanced efficiency and passenger comfort, this aircraft is a leap forward. It boasts a range of approximately 7,350 nautical miles, allowing airlines to connect China with Europe, Australia, the Middle East, and key domestic routes, such as Beijing and Shenzhen.

The new A330-900neo has a capacity of 301 seats arranged across two classes: 24 in business and 277 in economy. Hainan Airlines plans to employ this aircraft on a variety of international and domestic long-haul routes, adhering to its broader strategy of fleet modernization while reinstating vital intercontinental services that were suspended during the pandemic.

Hainan Airlines has been operating earlier models of the A330, such as the A330-200 and A330-300, in addition to its Boeing 787 Dreamliners.
