Jetstar Introduces First International Flight from Melbourne Avalon to Bali
Jetstar has announced an impressive expansion at Melbourne Avalon Airport (AVV), introducing its first international flights to Bali, resuming connections to Adelaide, and increasing flight frequencies to Brisbane.
The low-cost airline plans to add over 330,000 affordable seats annually at Avalon, Melbourne’s second airport. This initiative will provide more travel choices for local residents and attract additional tourists to Victoria.
Expanding Horizons: Jetstar’s First International Route
The Bali route signifies Jetstar’s inaugural international service from Melbourne Avalon, marking a significant achievement for the airport’s predominant airline.
Beginning March 23, 2026, Jetstar will offer five weekly round-trip flights between Melbourne Avalon and Bali Denpasar Airport (DPS) using its Airbus A321LR fleet. This new service will provide more than 120,000 annual seats to one of Australia’s favorite international destinations.
With a flight duration of just over six hours, travelers will find convenient access to Bali’s stunning beaches and vibrant culture, catering to those residing in Melbourne, Geelong, the Surf Coast, and the Bellarine Peninsula.
Jetstar Expands Domestic Offerings
In addition, Jetstar plans to resume its service from Melbourne Avalon to Adelaide Airport (ADL) starting March 26, 2026, offering up to seven weekly round-trip flights. This route will make available up to 109,000 seats annually, reinstating the connection between the two cities.
Furthermore, Jetstar will enhance its service to Brisbane with up to five additional weekly flights. This expansion will increase annual capacity by around 107,000 seats, connecting Melbourne Avalon to Queensland’s capital more effectively.
Significant Investment in Regional Travel
Jetstar’s CEO, Stephanie Tully, emphasized the importance of this expansion for Melbourne Avalon Airport.
“This is a massive step forward for Jetstar at Melbourne Avalon Airport. We’re launching two new routes and adding more seat capacity than ever before,” Tully stated.
“Whether it’s a family holiday in Bali or a weekend away in Adelaide or Brisbane, these services give Victorians even more options to fly more for less. This investment will encourage thousands more customers to use Melbourne’s second airport, boosting the economic growth of Melbourne, Geelong, the Surf Coast, and the Bellarine Peninsula.”
Located roughly 55 kilometers southwest of downtown Melbourne, Avalon Airport serves as an alternative to Tullamarine Airport (MEL) and has primarily catered to domestic flights. The addition of the Bali route is a significant milestone in its journey as a regional gateway.
This expansion is a clear response to the rising demand for budget-friendly travel options from Melbourne’s western suburbs and regional Victoria.
