Ascend Airways Malaysia Secures Complete AOC and Air Service Permit

Ascend Airways Malaysia, a new player in the aviation sector, has officially secured its Air Operator Certificate (AOC) and Air Service Permit (ASP) licenses. This development marks an important milestone as the airline prepares to launch operations in November.

The journey began in 2024 when Ascend Airways was issued a Conditional Air Service Permit (CASP). Throughout the year, the airline collaborated with the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) to finalize the necessary steps for obtaining its AOC. With this certification in hand, Ascend Airways Malaysia is set to begin operations with its first aircraft, a Boeing 737-800SF.

Based in Kuala Lumpur, this ACMI (Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance, and Insurance) and charter airline aims to offer both passenger and cargo services within Malaysia and the wider Southeast Asia region. After receiving further regulatory clearances, they plan to launch passenger flights in early 2026, alongside fleet expansion.

Germal Singh Khera, CEO of Ascend Airways Malaysia, highlighted the airline’s role in fostering Malaysia’s aviation growth. With projections indicating a rise in passenger traffic of 8.4% to 15.6% annually in 2025, the country is expected to handle between 105.8 million and 112.9 million air travelers.

“Malaysia serves as a crucial logistics and aviation hub connecting Southeast Asia, China, and India. We appreciate the backing from the Ministry of Transport, CAAM, MAVCOM, and other local agencies. Their support is vital for the growth of our aviation sector,” Khera stated.

Mr. Khera envisions that the ACMI model will become integral to the Asia-Pacific logistics framework, allowing airlines to enhance their revenue during peak seasons while also improving operational efficiency amidst challenges.

Avia Solutions Group, the parent company, operates globally under 11 AOCs across Europe, Asia, and the Americas. This extensive network facilitates seasonal fleet adjustments, allowing Ascend Airways to meet demand in various markets effectively. Utilizing the wet lease (ACMI) model can increase operational flexibility and potentially boost profitability by 2-3% with strategic implementation.

“We have a dedicated team eager to create new revenue avenues for our partners throughout the region. Our aspiration is to lead in the ACMI sector in the Asia-Pacific arena and help shape it into a significant economic force,” said Khera.

Furthermore, Dato’ Captain Norazman Bin Mahmud, the CEO of CAAM, praised the airline’s preparedness, which streamlined the licensing process. “The issuance of Ascend Airways Malaysia’s AOC and ASP illustrates their successful navigation through a rigorous evaluation consistent with Malaysia’s safety and regulatory standards. We applaud their diligence and look forward to their continuous compliance in fostering a secure and resilient aviation environment,” he remarked.
