In April 2025, airBaltic appointed Pauls Cālītis as interim CEO following the departure of long-serving chief Martin Gauss, amid a leadership transition sparked by the Latvian government’s loss of confidence in Gauss. Cālītis, previously COO, aims to maintain stability while a permanent CEO is sought from over 40 applicants. He emphasizes aligning the leadership team and engaging with employees as priorities. Currently, airBaltic is collaborating with Lufthansa and has placed 19 aircraft with them. Qatar Airways and Philippine Airlines Forge Strategic Alliance
Philippine Airlines has launched a strategic partnership and codeshare agreement with Qatar Airways, introducing daily nonstop flights from Manila to Doha starting June 16, 2025. This collaboration aims to enhance travel connectivity from the Philippines to Qatar and beyond, allowing passengers access to over 170 destinations worldwide. The flights will operate daily, departing Manila at 18:50 and arriving in Doha at 23:40. Philippine Airlines will use its Airbus A330-300 for these routes.
Cebu Pacific and flyadeal Forge Commercial Partnership Deal
Cebu Pacific and flyadeal have signed a Memorandum of Understanding in Manila on May 28, 2025, to enhance low-cost air travel. This partnership aims to improve commercial cooperation and maintenance support, with flyadeal leasing two Airbus A320 aircraft from Cebu Pacific for the summer season in Saudi Arabia. Cebu Pacific may also lease flyadeal’s A320s during Southeast Asia’s winter peak. This collaboration is the first official partnership between a Saudi airline and an external airline. Both airlines plan to optimize operations and expand into long-haul travel, with flyadeal set to introduce Airbus A330-900neo aircraft by 2027.
