Flydubai Secures MoU for 75 Boeing 737 MAX Jets at Dubai Airshow 2025

flydubai has formalized a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Boeing for the acquisition of 75 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, along with options for an additional 75 planes. This significant agreement was made during the third day of the Dubai Airshow 2025.

The signing ceremony included notable figures such as flydubai’s chairman, Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Boeing Commercial Airplanes president and CEO Stephanie Pope, and flydubai CEO Ghaith Al Ghaith.

Valued at approximately $13 billion according to list prices, this agreement enhances the airline’s enduring partnership with the American manufacturer, further propelling its growth strategy.

The MoU encompasses 75 committed aircraft within the 737 MAX range, with options that could elevate the total to 150 aircraft. flydubai highlighted that this agreement will allow it to adapt its capacity to meet demand across its extending network in regions such as the Middle East, Africa, Europe, and Asia.

Boeing’s Role in Fleet Strategy

This commitment follows flydubai’s initial foray into Airbus narrowbody acquisitions, announced on November 18, 2025, for up to 150 A321neo aircraft. While this represents a shift towards a mixed narrowbody fleet, flydubai has reiterated that the 737 MAX will remain central to its operations.

The airline currently deploys a fleet of 96 Boeing 737s, comprising 66 737 MAX 8s and three 737 MAX 9s. Additionally, it has an order for 30 Boeing 787-9s set for delivery starting in 2026, which will bolster its plans for long-haul expansions.

Duba’s Long-Term Aviation Growth

According to Sheikh Ahmed, the MoU underscores Dubai’s ambition to enhance its aviation sector and position airlines to meet forthcoming demand.

“In the coming years, proactive fleet planning is vital to ensure we can meet the increasing travel demand we anticipate will persist,” he stated. “Predicting future needs is crucial for any airline’s success, and today’s announcement aligns with that vision.”

The additional 737 MAX aircraft will facilitate flydubai’s network expansion and play a significant role in the growth of Dubai World Central, which aims to become the world’s largest airport.

Moreover, flydubai has announced future plans to enhance its fleet with high-speed in-flight internet through Starlink, set to begin in 2026.
