Expansion in the Chicago Hub
American Airlines will increase its daily departures from Chicago (ORD) to over 500 next summer, reflecting steady growth in this critical hub.
New routes to Erie (ERI), Lincoln (LNK), and Tri Cities (TRI) will enhance access for local travelers. Seasonal services to Santa Fe (SAF) and Key West (EYW) are transitioning to extended summer availability.
Additionally, the airline will improve summer access to Hilton Head (HHH), Pensacola (PNS), and Panama City (ECP) by shifting from weekend-only flights to daily services. Overall, departures from ORD are expected to rise by over 30% compared to 2025.
All flights from Chicago are operated with dual-class aircraft, catering to the demand for premium seating. The London (LHR) route continues to feature American’s Flagship Suite offering.

Linking Smaller Cities to Global Networks
On June 4, Lincoln (LNK) will become the 240th destination for American Airlines in the United States. This milestone will allow local travelers one-stop access to major international cities like Athens (ATH), Cancun (CUN), Rome (FCO), and Sao Paulo (GRU). With these new additions, American Airlines solidifies its status as the largest domestic airline by the number of destinations served.
In the West, Phoenix (PHX) is set to support travelers with seven new routes that provide access to national parks, regional attractions, and international destinations. New services to Abilene (ABI) and McAllen (MFE) will foster both business and leisure travel in the Southwest and Mexico.
Recent expansions also include routes to Carlsbad (CLD), Golden Triangle (GTR), Santa Maria (SMX), and Sun Valley (SUN). Starting in 2026, American will uniquely offer flights connecting the U.S. with Bimini (BIM) while also adding service to Vero Beach (VRB) for increased access to Florida.
The airline’s hub system currently offers travel to over 350 destinations globally, partnering with international airlines to connect travelers to more than 1,000 cities.
