Fiji Airways Introduces Direct Boeing 737 MAX 8 Flights from Gold Coast to Nadi
Fiji Airways is set to begin direct flights between Gold Coast Airport (OOL) and Nadi International Airport (NAN) in Fiji starting June 11, 2026. This new route marks a vital expansion in the airline’s Australian services.
The flights will operate three times a week on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Passengers can expect a comfortable journey onboard the Boeing 737 MAX 8, with a flight duration of just over three hours. This initiative is projected to add 53,000 seats to the market each year, simplifying travel for many passengers between these popular destinations.
To celebrate this service launch, Fiji Airways is offering special introductory round-trip fares starting at FJ$799 (approximately $350) from Fiji to the Gold Coast. These promotional rates will be available for booking until December 31, 2025, for selected travel dates.
Paul Scurrah, the CEO and Managing Director of Fiji Airways, expressed enthusiasm about the new route. “The Gold Coast is a natural fit for Fiji Airways,” he stated. The direct flights are anticipated to strengthen connections between Fiji and Australia, opening up new opportunities for both inbound and outbound tourism.
The Queensland government’s Connecting Queensland Fund supports this route as part of the Destination 2045 initiative. Tourism Minister Andrew Powell commented on the economic impact, highlighting that it would provide an AUD 51 million ($33.7 million) boost to the economy. This influx will directly benefit local businesses such as cafes, hotels, and tourism operators, all while creating over 100 jobs.
Gold Coast Airport now becomes Fiji Airways’ seventh Australian destination. The introduction of this direct flight alleviates the necessity for prior connecting routes. With infrastructure development in Southeast Queensland related to the Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games, the demand for travel to the area is expected to rise.
