Amsterdam Schiphol Airport Braces for More Travel Disruptions Due to Snow

Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (AMS) is encountering a particularly difficult beginning to the year as harsh winter weather and snow are disrupting its operations.

On January 6, 2026, Amsterdam Schiphol Airport alerted travelers that ongoing adverse weather conditions have limited flight activity at this crucial international hub.

Unfortunately, the airport forecasts that these wintry conditions will persist, leading to further disturbances in the flight schedule in the upcoming days.

The British Met Office has indicated that snow is expected to fall at Amsterdam Schiphol on January 7, 2026, with conditions gradually improving by January 8, 2025.

The airport’s snow removal teams have been working diligently around the clock to ensure that runways remain clear, and de-icing measures are being thoroughly executed to maintain safe travel for passengers.

Travelers scheduled to fly on this day are encouraged to contact their respective airlines before proceeding to the airport.

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines provided an update shortly before noon, stating: “Severe winter conditions, including snow and strong winds, are currently affecting flights at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. We recognize that this situation is stressful, and we are doing everything we can to assist you in reaching your destination.”

KLM further mentioned, “Due to operational limitations, including reduced capacity across airlines and crew scheduling challenges caused by the weather, rebooking is taking longer than usual. Rest assured, our teams are tirelessly working to get you to your destination as quickly as possible.”

Flight Cancellations Overview

As per information from various flight tracking services, more than 400 flights were canceled on January 6, with an additional 171 cancellations already reported for January 7, 2025, and this number may increase.

Over a stretch of six days starting from January 2, 2026, approximately 2,597 flights have faced cancellations thus far.
