Air India Express to Launch 40 New Flights from Tourist Hub
Air India Express is expanding its operations at Manohar International Airport (GOX) in Goa, complementing its existing services at Goa International Airport (GOI). Starting April 15, 2025, the airline will introduce several new domestic routes, including twice-daily flights to Delhi and daily services to Bengaluru, Indore, and Chennai. Additionally, international flights to Kuwait and Abu Dhabi will commence in May 2025. With over 115 weekly flights from Goa, this expansion enhances connectivity and provides travelers greater access to North Goa’s attractions. Air India Express and IndiGo: Dominating International Travel
A recent analysis by aviation expert Ravreet Singh compares the international flight networks of Air India Express (IX) and IndiGo Airlines (6E). Air India Express operates 471 weekly flights across 93 routes, focusing primarily on Middle Eastern destinations, while IndiGo offers 900 weekly flights on 113 routes with a broader international presence. IndiGo’s network is 48% more efficient in flight frequency and 50% in seat capacity. Although Air India Express specializes in longer-haul routes, it faces challenges due to its fleet limitations compared to IndiGo’s A320neo. This competition highlights the differing operational strategies of the two airlines.
South African Airways Pilots Strike, Flights Canceled
South African Airways (SAA) faces a potential strike from the SAA Pilots Association (SAAPA) over wage negotiations, with pilots demanding a 15.7% salary increase, down from an initial 30%. SAA has rejected these demands, citing financial instability and warning that meeting them could lead to bankruptcy. Interim CEO John Lamola emphasized the airline’s precarious financial state, despite a modest profit of R252 million last fiscal year. In response, SAA offered an 8.46% increase, which pilots declined. The strike could significantly impact domestic and regional flights, but operations with partner airlines will remain unaffected.
