Air India Suspends Flights to Tel Aviv Until May 25
Air India has suspended flights from Delhi to Tel Aviv until May 25, 2025, due to heightened security risks following a Houthi missile attack near Ben Gurion Airport. Initially expected to last until May 6, the suspension reflects ongoing concerns for passenger safety. Approximately 1,500 weekly seats are affected, disrupting connectivity between India and Israel. Affected travelers can rebook without fees or request refunds. Alternative routes via Dubai or Istanbul may add travel time. This decision aligns with safety advisories and is expected to result in a $10 million monthly revenue loss for Air India, which will focus on other routes during this period.
Heathrow Airport Plans Shorter Third Runway
Heathrow Airport is exploring the construction of a shorter third runway to reduce costs associated with its expansion plans, as reported by the Financial Times. This option could simplify logistics by avoiding the expensive diversion of the M25 motorway. CEO Thomas Woldbye announced that a formal proposal will be submitted this summer, with the UK government supporting the project, which could be operational by 2035. Currently, Heathrow operates at full capacity, limiting passenger accommodation. The airport’s slot prices are the highest globally, creating intense competition among airlines for access, highlighting the critical nature of runway expansions for operational efficiency.
