Virgin Atlantic has completed three significant slot transfers with Emirates, EL AL Israel Airlines, and Saudia at London Heathrow to enhance operations for the Summer 2025 season. The swaps will optimize flight schedules, allowing Virgin to operate new routes to New York using Emirates’ evening slots and to adjust timings for flights to Tel Aviv and Jeddah with EL AL and Saudia. These changes will take effect from March 31, 2025, to October 23, 2025. However, Virgin Atlantic faces flight cancellations to Tel Aviv and Accra due to maintenance issues with its Boeing 787 Dreamliner engines.
British Airways Kicks Family Off Flight Due to Baby’s Rash
A family was removed from a British Airways flight at Shanghai Pudong International Airport due to their baby’s insect bite rash, sparking controversy over airline safety protocols. Arthur and Xun Sun are seeking a £3,000 refund, claiming unfair treatment after staff observed red marks on their son Joseph’s skin. Despite medical staff advising them the rash was minor, the airline insisted on a “fit to fly” certificate from a local doctor, leading to the family’s denial of boarding. British Airways defended its decision, emphasizing passenger safety, while the family expressed frustration over reliance on remote medical assessments.
Air France-KLM Cancels A350F Order, Sees €1.6B Profit
Air France-KLM has reduced its Airbus A350F freighter order from eight to six, with plans to take three aircraft for Air France and three for Martinair. This change aligns with the airline’s hybrid cargo strategy, combining dedicated freighters and belly cargo on passenger flights. Despite a 4.1% increase in cargo volumes, freight revenue fell by 3.9%. The airline reported a strong operating profit of €1.6 billion and aims for 27% of its fleet to be new-generation aircraft by year-end, increasing to 80% by 2030. Air France-KLM is also enhancing sustainability efforts, increasing Sustainable Aviation Fuel usage by 13.6%.
Air France Launches Direct Flights from LA to Nice in May 2025
Air France will launch direct flights from Los Angeles (LAX) to Nice (NCE) starting May 12, 2025, enhancing accessibility to the French Riviera for events like the Cannes Film Festival and Monaco Grand Prix. The seasonal service features the Airbus A350, offering modern amenities across all classes, including lie-flat beds in Business Class. Additionally, special flights from New York (JFK) to Nice will operate for the Cannes Lions Festival in June 2025. This expansion is part of Air France’s broader strategy to strengthen its North American network, providing travelers with more options and convenience.
