United Airlines Accelerates Starlink Wi-Fi Integration for Enhanced In-Flight Connectivity

United Airlines is taking a bold leap in enhancing air travel connectivity by fast-tracking the integration of Starlink Wi-Fi across its two-cabin regional aircraft fleet. This initiative, announced on January 5, 2025, aims to revolutionize the in-flight experience for passengers by providing high-speed internet access.

Starting in February, United will begin testing Starlink Wi-Fi services on its Embraer E-175 regional jets, with commercial flights expected to commence in the spring. By the end of 2025, all E-175 aircraft, which can accommodate up to 88 passengers, will be equipped with Starlink. This upgrade promises faster and more reliable internet, ensuring travelers stay connected throughout their journey.

Key Features of Starlink Wi-Fi Service

  • Speed and Reliability: Starlink Wi-Fi will offer download speeds ranging from 40 to 220 megabits and upload speeds between 8 to 25 megabits.
  • Seamless Experience: Passengers will enjoy smooth browsing without buffering, eliminating the need for pre-downloaded content.
  • Free Access for MileagePlus Members: Enhanced in-flight entertainment will include streaming services, shopping, gaming, and more, all complimentary for MileagePlus members.

Richard Nunn, CEO of United MileagePlus, emphasized the airline’s commitment to improving the travel experience: “We have a lot planned for our MileagePlus members this year, and adding Starlink to as many planes as possible – as quickly as possible – is at the center of it all.”

Expanding Starlink Across Mainline Aircraft

United Airlines is also preparing to roll out Starlink on its mainline aircraft, with the first Starlink-enabled jet expected to take off before the end of this year. This ambitious rollout is part of United’s strategy to outfit nearly 1,000 planes with SpaceX’s satellite service, marking it as the first major U.S. carrier to adopt this innovative technology.
