Two Women Arrested Following Disruptive Incident on Cathay Pacific Flight
HONG KONG – A chaotic scene unfolded on a Cathay Pacific (CX) flight at Hong Kong International Airport (HKG) when two women were arrested due to a physical altercation. The incident, reportedly triggered by a child’s cries, escalated dramatically, prompting police intervention and raising concerns about passenger safety on flights.
The confrontation took place on Cathay Pacific flight CX581, which had just arrived in Hong Kong (HKG) from Sapporo (CTS) on Monday night. According to police reports, the conflict began when a 60-year-old mainland Chinese passenger, identified as Zhang, became agitated by her three-year-old child’s cries. A 32-year-old Hong Kong resident, surnamed Tsui, who was seated behind Zhang, reacted by throwing a water bottle at her, igniting the altercation.
Details of the Incident
Despite efforts from a flight attendant to mediate the situation, tensions escalated. The scuffle involved cushion-throwing, with Tsui throwing a cushion that struck Zhang, leading to Zhang’s retaliatory throw of another cushion.
The incident was reported to airport police around 9:40 PM shortly after the flight landed. Officers were dispatched and arrested both women on suspicion of violating the Aviation Security Ordinance. Authorities have highlighted the seriousness of such disruptive behaviors, which pose risks to passenger safety and flight operations.
In-Flight Injuries and Consequences
Both women sustained minor injuries during the altercation. Tsui reported scrapes and bruises on her hands and wrists, while Zhang experienced chest discomfort. However, both declined medical treatment post-incident.
This event serves as a stark reminder of the critical importance of maintaining decorum during flights. Airlines and aviation authorities continuously stress the need for compliance with safety regulations to prevent similar occurrences.
